Description:
This is a bariatric/foregut fellowship which includes bariatric endoscopy and esophageal studies . By completion of this fellowship, it is intended that the fellow will become proficient in minimally invasive ( laparoscopic and robotic) advanced surgical techniques and have the skills to perform primary and revisional upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. There will be a focus on surgical management of obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease and other esophageal disorders. The fellow will develop skills in endoscopy( mostly upper) and in advanced endoscopic techniques involving management bariatric surgery complications, endoscopic bariatrc procedures and endoscopic management of GERD. The fellow will be able to learn to how to perform and interpret esophageal manometry, esophageal pH studies and impedance technology for the evaluation of esophageal disorders. Additionally, the fellow will also be involved in multiple research projects. The fellow will have the opportunity to operate in both large academic center and in suburban community practice settings. Briefly, this fellowship focuses on mastering minimally invasive Bariatric and GERD/foregut surgery, diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopy and esophageal physiology testing.
Fellows are expected to take some call as general surgery attending ( primary) at community hopsitals.
