Description:

This Fellowship is a one year clinical fellowship that focuses on Foregut Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Hernia Surgery.  This includes balanced training on both the laparoscopic and robotic platfoms.

The program is based at the University of Tenneesee Graduate School of Medicine located in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The fellowship is hosted by the Department of Surgery and is complimentary to the General Surgery Residency Program, which gradutes 6 chiefs annually.  The UT GSM is a distinct program separate from UT surgery programs at Memphis and Chattanooga. All of the fellowship program experience takes place at the flagship University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, adjacent to the main campus of the University of Tennessee.

This program provides the unique opportunity for both advanced laparoscopic and robotic clinical training for bariatric and general surgery procedures. Additionally, the fellow is directly involved in the developement and implimentation of robotics educational curriculum for general surgical residents.  Our clinical and educational opportunities allow for eligibility for both SAGES and ASMBS certification. An additional benefit to our fellowship is that we provide a true transition to practice model. Our fellow takes attending general surgery call three times a month. They also have their own clinic where they see post op patients and new patients allowing them to book their own cases. The balance of clinical and educational opportunies makes this innovative fellowship unique amoungst its peers.
